Andrésson Dorrit Moussaieff, Iceland's first lady, becomes an Icelandic citizen on Monday, July 31st. Her application for citizenship has been processed in the Ministry of Justice and will go into effect on Monday. Her recommenders were among others Karl Sigurbjörnsson bishop of Iceland and Rannveig Rist, CEO of Alcan. Iceland's president Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson and Dorrit Moussaieff have known each other since 2000 but were married in 2003. Moussaieff won the hearts of the Icelandic nation when she began visiting the country regularly. In international fashion magazines she has also been labelled the Nordic Star. Moussaieff was born in Jerusalem in Israel, but was raised in Britain where her family runs a chain of jewellery shops. Moussaieff is not the first foreign wife of an Icelandic president. Sveinn Björnsson, Iceland's first president had a Danish wife.
