No More Alcoa Secrets 9. júní 2006 11:07 Parliamentarian Helgi Hjörvar As reported yesterday an article appeared on aluminium company Alcoa's website, stating that the company pays 50 percent less for hydroelectric power in Iceland than in Brazil. Member of Parliament and also Board of Directors for the National Power Company, Helgi Hjörvar was surprised that Alcoa's CEO wished to publicly announce Alcoa's paying price for hydroelectric power in Iceland because these figures have been kept a secret in Iceland. "Not revealing these figures was harshly debated in Iceland at the time, especially since The National Power Company belongs to the public and is run by tax money," says Helgi Hjörvar. He wants the price for hydroelectric power out in the open so that people in Iceland should know on what basis the contracts with Alcoa are built. Helgi Hjörvar declared that since Alcoa chooses to publicly discuss the figures on their website they cannot demand that The National Power Company deny Icelandic citizens this information. The article has been removed from Alcoa's website. -hbv News News in English Mest lesið Fólk hafi dreymt um að eignast flugstjóradress Innlent Hækkar tolla á kanadískar vörur vegna sjónvarpsauglýsingar Erlent Meirihluti fólks geti ekki keypt íbúð í nýju lánakerfi sem sé að teiknast upp Innlent Áhugasamir smalahundar á námskeiði Innlent Veitingamenn uggandi yfir erfiðum rekstrarskilyrðum Innlent Lést vegna voðaskots úr haglabyssu Innlent Kona handtekin grunuð um að stinga sambýlismann sinn Innlent Eldur í bíl á Seltjarnarnesi Innlent Ýjar að annarri atrennu að forsetaembættinu Erlent Uppþot á félagsfundi Sósíalista: „Þetta var bara kjánalegt og alger óþarfi“ Innlent
