Attack at Kárahnjúkar

A Chinese worker at the Kárahnjúkar dam was viciously beaten in his sleep during the weekend. The man was attacked with a club and was found lying in his blood the next morning when his roommate returned home from his shift. According to witnesses it was an ugly site. Doctors in the area managed to keep his condition stable while the Coast Guard helicopter was sent to the scene. The man was then flown to Reykjavik where he is now at Landspitalinn. According to doctors his condition is stable. The police in Egilsstaðir interrogated about twenty people but nobody has been arrested. Traffic to and from the workcamp was closed off while the police investigated. Ómar R. Valdimarsson Impregilo‘s publicists says that workers are stricken by the incident and whoever is responsible will be let go. About 1000 workers live in the workcamp where the attack occurred and according to Ómar law enforcement in the area is lacking. According to the National Radio newsroom the attack is said to be related to gambling among the Chinese.
