Strongest Man in the World 8. nóvember 2006 10:41 Jón Páll Sigmarsson The competition on the world strongest man the year 2006 will be held in Reykjavík from November 20th to 25th. This year‘s competition will be held in memoriam of the Icelander Jón Páll Sigmarsson who won the title Strongest Man in the World four times. Only he and the Icelander Magnús Ver Magnússon have reached so far. The trophy will be a statue of Jón Páll. Twenty-four men will compete, thereof three Icelanders: Benedikt Magnússon, Stefán Sölvi Pétursson and Georg Ögmundsson. Each one will try their strength in the semi finals that will take place in Alcan‘s aluminum smelter in Straumsvík. The finals will then take place at the horse track in Reiðhöllin, Víðidalur. Last year‘s competition was held in Canada and Zydrunas Savickas from Lithuania won the title Strongest Man in the World 2005.
